Melbourne Chicken Rescue 2018

From our Wonderful Foster Carers

From Prag

I have been lucky enough to be a foster carer for a little chick named Metta and a handsome rooster name Hoolio. They both captured my heart in their own way and it is something that will not be replicated and that is one the great aspects of fostering.

Each foster will bring you different feelings and each will have different outcomes for the foster chicken. I say this as Metta did not make it, however I was able to give him a death that had dignity, freedom, kindness and above all love. Metta melted my heart from day one and I saw him as my little baby. He met many different animals in his short life, Kush my parrot would say hello to him every day and the dogs loved having a little baby around. There will be moments encompassed by sadness with fostering, they are however outweighed by the special moments you get to share in when caring for chickens that so desperately need love and kindness.

Hoolio has been a great housemate for a number of weeks and slowly he is allowing me to share some affection with him and understand what he may want when he crows. Hoolio is quiet the character with a vast number of vocalisations and really loves showing off to the hens! He is kind enough to share his food with Vinsanity a male bunny and also Kush a female parrot.

Fostering is a great opportunity to make a difference in not just one animal’s life but many, to make up for the heartbreak when the separation inevitably occurs you will have amassed many wonderful memories with your foster animal and also that you made a difference.
